CHECK YOUR GROWING ZONES!

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
The best time to plant a tree is in the spring or in the fall, 6 weeks before your first frost. If you live in an area that with mild winters and you do not reach freezing temperatures during winter, it is fine to plant your tree during winter months. Summer is also fine, as long as you are not experiencing extreme temperatures of 95% or above. In these cases, it is best to leave your tree potted, keep on a patio, protect from freezes and wait until conditions are more favorable. (Do not leave inside too long) This does not apply to palms that are grown inside with high light.
Planting a tree is easy...
Pick a place in your yard that gets full sun-partial shade. Check to make sure you are taking into consideration of how large your tree will be at full maturity...how tall? what is the spread? Keep in mind of driveways, septic systems, power lines and how close you will want it to your home.
Dig a hole 2x3 times the width of the root ball, but only as deep as the top of the root ball. Take tree out of pot carefully so you do not disturb the root system too much...in some cases, it may be best to cut the pot if it is too hard to pull out of pot easily. Gently loosen roots and place in hole.
Add a slow release fertilizer evenly into hole and refill soil. If you have a very wet soil, it would be best to add 50% peat moss to your soil for proper drainage. If you have a very sandy soil, it would be best to add 50% top soil to your soil to ensure the proper nutrients can be absorbed. Pack soil firmly...no air holes.
Water in immediately and deeply. Add 1-2 inches of mulch around base of the tree, making sure mulch does not touch the trunk of the tree. It is best to water your new tree deeply at least every other day for the first the two weeks. If you have a sprinkler system, after care should be minimal. If you do not have a sprinkler system and you have not been receiving much rain, be sure to water your tree at a minimum of two times a week for the first year.
Mulch, organic compost and/or fertilizer will ensure your trees health and strength to resist pests and disease. We recommend Osomocote fertilizer for young shade and flowering trees and Miracle grow PALM (green bottle) shake and feed for young palms. They are all slow release fertilizers that are easy to apply and feed continuously for up to 6 months.
Shade and Flowering trees should be fertilized in the spring and in the fall.
Palm trees should be fertilized year around. Less will be needed if kept potted. Please check directions on product for potted palms.
A good natural insecticide is 1 part Ivory liquid hand dish soap - 10 parts water, mix well and put in a spray bottle and spray leaves of your tree or plant. Repeat application 1 week later.
If pests or disease still occur, please bring a sample leaf to a garden center in your area (in a plastic, sealed bag, please). Try a local independent nursery. They usually are your best bet for knowledge and expertise...and a plus, you are supporting local business.
We wish you great success with your new tree!
